Ms. Govea (Ms. G)

Hello! I am Ms. G and I am so happy to be here at Horace Mann for the 2020-2021 school year! This is my 21st year teaching and my 13th year teaching here in North Bergen.  I have taught Special Education in the North Bergen PreK, 3/4 grade at Franklin School, 6,7,8 grade Math at McKinley School, and 6th grade at Kennedy School.  This year I am so excited to begin my journey as the 7th Grade Resource Teacher.   I believe in equality and equity in education, that all students should have access to rich and rigorous curriculum and that every student should have a supportive and loving teacher by their side.  Having a growth mindset is a major part of my philosophy, where students (and teachers!) take on challenges and learn from them, therefore increasing their abilities and achievements.  Click on this link to learn more on Growth Mindset https://www.mindsetworks.com/science/

Let me share some things about myself with you.  I have 3 sons, 19, 17 and 15.  One is in college and the younger two are in High School.  They keep me busy with sports, baseball, basketball, and music!  In my free time, I LOVE to read! I will read anything, but I prefer to read books from the "Bestseller" lists.  My favorite books have short chapters and are told from different points of view.  I read A LOT of young adult books! My goal is to read 100 books over the next few months.  My favorite place on Earth is the beach. I LOVE the color purple and I love M &M's ! I have a pet rabbit named Rosie.  She is very playful and loving.  I have 2 dogs, Roxie and Charlie.  They are a lot of work, but so much fun!
