Horace Mann Safety Patrol

The role of the AAA School Safety Patrol is to organize and teach dedicated student volunteers to direct their peers during morning line-up and lunch recess.

  • AAA School Safety Patrol members are school-sponsored student volunteers from fourth grade at Horace Mann School.
  • Patrollers direct children, not traffic. As school-age leaders in school safety, patrol members teach other students about safety on a peer-to-peer basis. They also serve as examples for younger children, who look up to them.

AAA School Safety Patrol members:

  • Complete training in school safety.
  • Inform students regarding proper behavior in the school yard and inside the school.
  • Assist teachers and school aids during lineup.
  • Teach fellow students about school safety.
  • Serve in other leadership roles under the direction of school officials.

Typically, teachers and principals appoint patrol members, who participate with parental approval. A teacher usually serves as the patrol moderator.
