North Bergen Student Dress Code

Guidelines Boys and Girls Pre-K Through 8

North Bergen Schools must be an environment in which work can be accomplished by adults and students. Students’ dress will fall within the following guidelines in order to create an orderly setting, in which teaching and learning can occur with as few visual distractions as possible.

The school administrator will make the final decision about whether an article of clothing or style of dress falls outside of these guidelines.

  • Shirts should be worn as purchased - no intentional holes, tears or shreds.

PANTS:

Appropriate pants are solid khaki or black cotton twill.

  • Waistline can be elastic or snap/zipper closure.
  • Pants should be sized to fit
  • Pants should have no holes, tears or shredded hemlines.

For those adhering to religious dress codes, a long skirt in either khaki or black twill is acceptable year round. Parents must send confirmation in writing to school administrator.

OUTER GARMENTS:

  • Coats, jackets and outerwear, including hooded clothing or “hoodies”, shawls, ponchos and raincoats cannot be worn inside the school building after morning announcements.
  • Students will only be allowed to wear the burgundy non-hooded fleece covering with district logo in during the school day along with any school sponsored spirt wear.

Hats, bandanas, head gear, sweatbands, stocking caps, do-rags, grills, sunglasses, and other distracting apparel or accessories may not be worn in the school building. If a student is noted as wearing any of these, the enforcement policy will be the same as non-uniform compliance. Headscarves will be permitted for students who are adhering to religious dress codes. Parents must send confirmation in writing to the school administrator.
