Ms. Govea (Ms. G)

Hello! I am Ms. G and I am so happy to be here at Horace Mann for the 2025-2026 school year! This is my 26th year teaching and my 18th year teaching here in North Bergen.  This is my sixth year here at Horace Mann School.  I have taught Special Education in the North Bergen PreK, 3/4 grade at Franklin School, 6,7,8 grade Math at McKinley School, 6th grade at Kennedy School and 7th grade ELA Resource.  This year I am so excited to be the Special Education 6th Grade Math and ELA Pull Out Replacement teacher. I also will be the in class support teacher in 6th grade Science and History.   I believe in equality and equity in education, that all students should have access to rich and rigorous curriculum and that every student should have a supportive and loving teacher by their side.  Having a growth mindset is a major part of my philosophy, where students (and teachers!) take on challenges and learn from them, therefore increasing their abilities and achievements.  Click on this link to learn more on Growth Mindset https://www.mindsetworks.com/science/

Let me share some things about myself with you.  I have 3 sons, ages 24, 22 and 20.  Ethan graduated from Drew University as a music major and works as a multi-instrumental music teacher at School of Rock.  He is also in several bands and one of my favorite things to do is to go watch him perform.  Brandon is a graduate from Monmouth University with a Mathematics degree.  He loves to do stats in sports and play the guitar.  Tristan is a Junior at Felician University where he is playing baseball.   I love to go watch his games! They keep me busy with sports, baseball, basketball, and music!  In my free time, I LOVE to read! I will read anything, but I prefer to read books from the "Bestseller" lists.  My favorite books have short chapters and are told from different points of view.  I read A LOT of young adult books! My goal is to read 100 books over the next few months.  My favorite place on Earth is the beach. I LOVE the color purple and I love M &M's ! I have an orange tabby cat named Noodle and two dogs, Roxie and Charlie.  They are a lot of work, but so much fun!  They are both rescue dogs from shelters and I work very closely with animal rescues to foster dogs.  I have fostered seven dogs in the last two years!
