What is a Vocabulary Parade?

A Vocabulary Parade is a way to celebrate reading and vocabulary, as well as for students to expand their vocabulary and demonstrate their creativity.  First, each student will select a word. The word should be one that a costume can be created to demonstrate the meaning of the word. Next, the student will complete the attached Costume Design Sheet, including the definition of the word, using it in a sentence and a drawing or brief description of the costume.  Parents are asked to get involved with this parade by assisting their children in choosing a word and then creating a visual depiction of the word (See example below). The visual representation could be as simple as holding up a picture that demonstrates their word or a more creative costume. We encourage creativity. We request that children not wear any clothing with images of weapons. Parents are invited to come and watch the parade.
